"She wouldn't tell me when I asked her. Just kind of brushed it off."
He nodded at her next question though. "Loads. The pub was filled that night. I remember Madam Hooch being there. And Kevin was on the stage. Persephone was behind the bar with me."
He watched for a moment as she tried to unlock the drawer and then headed out of the office, only to stop completely when he opened the door that led into the pub.
It looked exactly like it had after the fire back in April. Scorch marks still licked their ways up the wall, and the furniture was in such an odd array that it was a bit reminiscent of something you'd find in Alice in Wonderland...if Grimms Fairy Tales had done a version of Alice in Wonderland.
It hit him then that Rosie was really dead and that she wasn't going to be coming back at all. His face contorted as he struggled not to cry, and he pulled out his wand, pointing it at the odd bits of furniture and shouting out spell after spell to transfigure things back to what they had been.
He'd only transfigured eight pieces of furniture before he broke down completely, collapsing to the floor as sob after sob racked through him.
