Ernie's blush deepened a little at the thought of reading the books Daniel had loaned him with Terry... and maybe trying out a few things in them.
"Yeah... maybe we should," he said before licking suddenly dry lips.
"Well, my father would have said that billiards is played by gentlemen while pool is played by layabouts," he said with a grin as he set the balls up. "I suppose I should really say snooker and pool but my Dad always called snooker billiards and pool a 'game for riffraff." He laughed. "Anyway, snooker is a much more refined game. It's played with fifteen red balls, six balls of different colours and a black ball. They're all worth different amounts of points. It's all very formal."
He finished setting up the balls, placed the white ball into position and put the rack away before reclaiming his cue from Terry, letting his fingers brush along the other man's as he did so. "Pool on the other hand uses coloured balls with the difference between them being how much white there is. The solid coloured balls are called 'smalls' and the striped balls are called 'bigs'. The idea is that you try and pot all of your balls before your opponent and then sink the black ball. Whoever does that first, wins."
"I can go first if you like so that we can get a good break," he offered. "Then I can show you how to play as we go along." He grinned. "As for the point... to have fun, of course."
