George was glad to get his tea. He took it just as Verity started in. He bit his tongue... they'd had this discussion already, and nothing either of them did was going to change anything.
He put his hand over hers. "Ver... I loved you. I remember that kiss at the shop. I remember what we felt for each other."
He sighed. "Then I wake up to find months worth of memories gone. I believe you when you say all these things. Fred's confirmed everything to me."
He looked at her. "I would have liked to have started over. To see if we could recapture that magic we had. But things were different. You told me you were engaged and couldn't get out of it. And now... you're married. You have an adopted son. Because of certain things, we had to take different paths. Yes, it sticks that we had to. But we had no choice in the matter."
He squeezed her hand then pulled it back. "I'm sorry, Verity. I really am. But it needs to be put to rest. I will still be in your life if you want me to be. It just can't be in the way we wanted."
