'Within the wards?' Theo asked, frowning. 'And they were still up? Were they changed in any way? Damaged?' He wondered why Verity hadn't specified this before, but then realised it was his own mistake for not asking. He'd just assumed it was outside of the wards.
'Verity, I need a list of everyone who has access to those wards, no matter how unlikely you think an attack from them would be. You never know who's been forced to do what,' he added to calm her, thought in truth he didn't think there was force involved. If Montague had been attacked within his wards, he'd most likely been attacked by someone who knew him, someone he trusted.
He couldn't help his mind from turning to Bletchley, though he pushed that thought away. He would not let his own prejudice colour his investigation of the attacker.
Pushing the thoughts away, he focused instead on the questions asked. 'If the school agrees, then certainly one of the elves can stay with him during the day,' he said. 'I'm sure Fleur wouldn't mind some extra help with the children.'
