Theo smiled as he watched Rodolphus with his son, a foolish wish that things could stay this way, that his son would have Rodolphus in his life for a long time to come. He knew chances of that depended on a war to be won and lost, and he could not see his godfather's side win. Today, for now, he pushed that thought away from him.
Right now he wanted to be able to keep his loyalty to his godfather.
'You'd have been a good father,' he said as Rodolphus said he envied him. 'There were plenty of times I wished for you to be my father rather than Nicholas,' he admitted. Though if so had been the case his life now would look very different.
