Summary: Emma visits Seamus at his flat. After a spending the summer slowly getting to know each other...and a summer spent dancing around growing mutual feelings...a small step towards the relationship territory is made.
Emma smoothed her robes as she stood on the doorstep of Cormac MacLaggen's house. She'd spent part of her morning working on the books for the Inn, but now that she had straightened out the bookkeeping and caught up on all the accounts, it didn't take long each day to do the little that needed to be done. She would have to work later that evening at the pub, but both she and Seamus had the afternoon free.
She had been spending a lot of her free time with Seamus Finnigan over the last few months. When she was in the Shack during her extended illness, he had come to visit her often. She didn't remember much of that time, to be perfectly honest, but she remembered that he'd been there. And he'd continued to visit her regularly when she'd been allowed to return to the Inn. He had checked to be sure she was okay, and done things for her she hadn't had the strength to do on her own...running errands and such. As she gained strength, he had started taking her out for short walks. Gradually, their walks had gotten longer, and Emma had begun to regain her health.
She had taken over the books for the Bite'n'Blether as soon as she'd been able. Pansy had asked her to do it and offered her room and board in exchange for the service. Emma had suspected that the offer had been due to her friendship with Blaise, but she had accepted because it was something that she could do with minimal effort, and not paying room and board would take the strain off her finances. Pansy had immediately moved her to a larger set of rooms, one with a small sitting room in addition to the bed and bath. Emma had protested, saying it couldn't possibly be an even exchange. Of course, she hadn't seen the accounts when she'd made that protest....it turned out that she really was working that hard.
As her health improved, Emma was also able to return to her job at the Three Broomsticks. Miles Bletchley had kept it open for her as he had said he would. She had no idea why....it seemed quite out of character for him. She'd worked only light shifts at first, times that had little business. But she'd gradually worked up to handling the busier shifts. And that meant that she was able to work sometimes with Seamus, always a good thing, she thought. Those shifts were less stressful for her, somehow. In some way she didn't understand, he took her attention off how uncomfortable she was around large groups of boisterous strangers and made her see the humorous side of things that might have ordinarily frustrated her.
Emma gave herself a little shake to get her mind back on the present. She was running a few minutes later than she'd planned because she'd looked in the mirror and noticed her robes were a little severe in appearance, and she'd taken the time to change them into something more casual.
And more flattering.
As soon as she thought that, Emma rolled her eyes, but the truth was that she worried about how she looked when she knew she was going to see Seamus.
