Cass laughed. 'Oh I do know that, but that is no reason to insinuate what he insinuated, and besides, he's married to Percy's best friend, he should know better.'
'But I don't want to talk about him, it's enough that I promised Morag I'd give the man a chance to prove me wrong. I don't have to seek him out to do so. And yes, you're ignoring Morag, or at least she thinks you do. She is also the one who offered me the job, as a matter of fact.'
He waived his hand in a dismissive gesture. It wasn't what he wanted to discuss at this time. What he wanted to talk to her about was the truth, and he needed to be focused to do that.
Taking another deep breath, he started over. 'Emilia is my...fake... mother,' he said. 'My real mother's name is Linda, and she is a Muggle, a Muggle my father met, feel in love with, and spent the rest of his life with - in secret. Publically he was of course the man who never wanted to settle down or marry.'
Cass sighed. 'Seeing how you and Harry keep things secret to protect yourselves, you might understand his motivations. When I was nine, my father introduced me to my grandfather for the first time. Before he did, he told me, in no uncertain terms, that if I as much as breathed a word about who my real mother was, she - and I - would most likely be killed.'
'Until now I've kept the promise I made then.' He tilted his head, giving Pansy a tentative smile. 'You do understand why, don't you?' he asked.
For now he ignored her comments about Susan, this was far more important and he could talk of Susan later.
