Summary: Rodolphus makes plans within plans
Rodolphus leaned against the table in what had once been Blagden Greengrass’ study. Nothing of the man remained other than the books in the bookshelves and both the desk and he’d had brought into the room were covered in maps, books and parchment.
Right now he was examining maps at the table, a piece of parchment with a dictaquill hovering over it sitting next to the maps. He was searching for potential replacements for Upper Slaughter and he needed to ensure that any replacement was located far from Gloucestershire. He had found a few potential sites but he would need to inspect them before making any final decisions.
The biggest decision revolving around any choice was the Fidelius. He intended to place the new site under the Fidelius but supporting two such spells was not considered very wise and he would not lower the Fidelius around Upper Slaughter.
He paused and picked up the glass of Firewhiskey that was balancing precariously on the edge of the table. Did he really need to maintain the Fidelius around Upper Slaughter? It would be easy enough to raise all the wards around the manor itself and given that they were blood wards, once done no one other than himself, Bella, Rabastan and Lisa would be able to enter. And Merlin knows he trusted those three. The houses in Upper Slaughter had been largely abandoned except for a few being used from time to time by the werewolves. Again, easy enough to inform Fenrir that the village was to be vacated entirely in favour of a new site. The only other house that remained warded in the village was the one appropriated by Severus and given his loyalties, the Ministry and Order would likely leave it alone.
He took a slow sip of the Firewhiskey and arched an eyebrow as he looked at the map. No, technically it was not necessary to maintain the Fidelius on Upper Slaughter. All that needed to be protected could be and if the Ministry and the Order wished to pick over what remained in the village, more power to them.
Rodolphus froze with the glass halfway to his mouth as an idea occurred to him and a slow smirk grew on his face. When the Fidelius went down, there would be immediate speculation in regards to his fate. He could use this. It would, of course, be necessary to keep Theodore out of the loop given the queries regarding his loyalty. Rodolphus sighed at the thought. It was a sad day indeed when a man could not trust his own godson but there was also reality and he had never been one to allow fantasy to override reality.
Oh, it was true enough that many would not believe he was dead… unless he could manage it properly. A few carefully staged meetings with Theodore in which at each one he looked worse and more run down. Carefully dropped hints that his health was suffering, perhaps due to the effects of the spell that had taken his arm, while he tried to deny it. And then... then the dropping of the Fidelius and ensuring that any owls were turned away, the book went unanswered.
And then, after a week or two, an attack. The location of that attack could be dealt with later though perhaps an attack on the heart and soul might be more interesting than anything else. Something important to the people, to the Order maybe. He would have to think about that.
He took another sip of his Firewhiskey then set the glass down on the table and went back to his maps. If he was going to do this then preparations would need to be made swiftly. A location would need to found and prepared while he spun his tale for Theodore. And he would need to accelerate his research with Voldemort’s papers and books. If he was going to stage his own death then an attack, he would infinitely prefer to give them a double shock during the attack – not just alive but with two arms and two hands.
