'Oh, stop it!' Morag told him in slight irritation when he attempted to sit up and ended up paler and more drawn than he'd been when she came in. 'I've been injured badly enough to recognize the signs and often enough to remember how painful it can be.'
She could also remember how difficult it is to maintain one's dignity when injured and she sighed. 'If you hadn't already impressed me with your strength and abilities, I wouldn't have mentioned a job offer in the first place. So you don't need to kill yourself now showing off,' she pointed out. She softened her words with a wink.
Morag gave him a long, stern look with a raised eyebrow, just long enough to make him uncomfortable. 'You are quite lucky that Percy got to me first. And that he still wants you,' she admitted grudgingly. 'At this point, you don't need me to tell you what an infernal idiot you've been.' Given that he was having to give up a job that he enjoyed, that had probably already been rammed home.
She fixed him with her glare, stating emphatically, 'There are problems that can't be handled alone! No matter how much you want to!'
The hormones insisted that she admit, 'But I can understand the desire to try. The test is whether you can step in and completely neutralize the situation quickly. Which would have meant finding your mother, getting her out, and killing Lestrange so he couldn't try again, all within a matter of hours. Even I couldn't have done that!' She gave him a smirk. 'But I'd have thought it out first to be sure I couldn't,' she confided. 'But when you realize it is beyond your abilities, you turn to others. Even me. And when you look in the dictionary for the definition of Lone Wolf, you see my picture....'
At least before Antonin. But she'd worked with him enough to appreciate the way he complimented her in such situations. And she didn't have to hide what she was from him, certainly a plus.
'Of course,' she drawled, 'if I were the vindictive sort, I might decide to set you as security for my daughter.' She waved her hand at her stomach.
Okay, so she was vindictive enough to scare the crap out of him with the possibility!
