Ella nodded wildly as Pansy asked her about Liam and babies. 'He even drew pictures and it wasn't like mummy said with magic, boys have a thing and girls don't and the thing puts the baby in the mummy,' she said eagerly, before she realised that Pansy would know that as she had Polly. She frowned. 'Does all grown-ups know how babies are made?' she asked, tilting her head. 'And why doesn't grown-ups want to talk about it?'
But then Pansy was talking about mummy and daddy and baby sisters and she looked up at her, as if the answer to her question was obvious. 'Because mummy is sad all the time, when she's not sleeping. I think daddy is sad about the baby too, but he has to work all the time and take care of mummy and me and Nori and Cat. Mummy is sleeping a lot, and she forgets to do stuff.'
