Stephen started to laugh, because the idea of leaving Adrian in bed was priceless. "God, you probably would have showed up at my house the next day, bitching and moaning that I had left you alone and why it was insane and no one did that. You know, I'm almost sorry that I didn't treat you like any of the guys I used to pick up, at least for a while." Of course, it wouldn't have happened after that year on the street, but the year before, it certainly would have.
"Fine, I can get around that. Yes, I'm not going to tell you what your presents are. I'm good at rephrasing," Stephen said said with a grin. "I know all of that. See the thing was I knew all the reasons why it couldn't work. For example, I knew what you were doing that first night, I could see it in your face, the tension and the defensiveness, and I knew how Sophia thought. I know it's one thing, but I also know how much it defined my father and brother. I understood without you saying a word."
He didn't complain when Adrian made a mess of his hair. It wasn't like he was getting up any time soon. "Good, then it'd be perfect."
