He was surprised that she felt so strongly about it, and a bit annoyed that Miles had not told him that, knowing that he wanted to bring it up with her. Still, he knew better than to push (even if he'd not listen and try to find the guy anyway), but held squeezed her hand instead.
'I told you, I won't push,' he said. 'It's your choice and obviously you feel strongly about it.' He looked at her, holding her gaze. 'I did not know you were opposed to the idea, Lettie, Miles never told me that. And no, it was not his suggestion to ask, it was mine, even though he knew I wanted to do so.'
He got up and took two cues out of the rack, one for him, one for her. 'You don't need to play for that, you know,' he said. 'I will respect your wishes (the hell he would) either way.
