Guilian wasn't sure if it was a flicker of fear in his father's eyes, but the darkness seemed to be dancing triumphantly at the thought of such a role reversal.
His father's stoic refusal to say anything other than 'very well' had always been a bad sign. The offer to return home came as a surprise, but then he started speaking about 'getting help'.
Then came the crunch - the removal of his Casino membership. It was supposed to be a shocking moment, but all Guilian could do was laugh.
"I tell you it's too late, and your answer is to take me home and put Mother and Lucrezia in further danger, and then you'll get me help?" He laughed again, his head shaking. "Do you have any idea why I tried to break all ties - to stay away? You really don't know what I'm dealing with, father."
"Plus I am getting all the help I need from the Lestranges." That much was very true. Not that his father needed to know that Rabastan had returned to France.
Revoking his membership just simply made him shake his head. "I'd like to see you try, father. If you try to revoke it, then the Lestranges will only sponsor my membership, and it would not do to displease them any further."
Guilian shook his head. "No, it's best I stay away."
