In any normal situation when a friend admitted to difficulties, Cass would have tried hard to understand. In this instance though, he found the words almost insulting, and he could not help but to give a rather sarcastic snort.
'Only I don't have a choice in the matter,' he pointed out. 'After all, I didn't choose to become a Death Eater.' The last words were muttered into the glass, if only because he didn't think it wise to alienate Miles further, not if he wanted him to actually find his mother. That didn't mean he wasn't bitter, though.
