Daphne could only giggle at Liam's show of displeasure at the idea of a little sister, and she looked down at him. "I'm sure she'll be just as much fun as a brother, only in different ways. Besides, you already have one of those." She winked at him, glad that he finally seemed to settle into the fact.
Then Anthony cast the final spell, and the room filled with the quick pitter patter of her unborn baby's heartbeat. It was rapid and full of life, and Daphne thought she felt her own heart stop for a moment, as if its noise would drown out what she was hearing now if it didn't.
Daphne felt herself smiling before she felt eyes on her. Looking over, she saw that Miles was staring at her with another (and even more surprised, if that was even possible) look on his face. She'd momentarily forgotten that he hadn't been there for any of this with Liam, and he had to be a little shocked by it all.
She reached for his hand, slipping her fingers between his and squeezing lightly. "That's our little girl," she whispered, not wanting her words to overcome her (oh, Merlin) daughter's first 'voice.'
