Miles was still grinning from Liam's little look of disgust, but he seemed resigned to the fact he was going to have to have a sister. It was a priceless look. Nigel was gurgling away, still chuckling himself once everyone laughed.
When Anthony moved on and cast another spell, Miles went quiet. The rhythmically musical thumping of a heartbeat was suddenly clear, and separate from Daphne's, and Miles thought his whole world was going to come crashing down.
This was real, and his daughter was really there. Living and well, not quite breathing, but a miracle of life. He didn't realise he was looking dumbfounded again, but somehow he knew that this moment was one he would never ever forget, not as long as he lived.
He just looked at Daphne, words failing him again.
