His direct approach had her squirming, and she looked down at her tea, trying to avoid his gaze. It seemed to be burning into her. Could he see the problem? Could he see the potions?
Of course not, that was silly.
She barely heard his offer, as it took a while for words to get through the constant fog in her mind these days, but as she caught it she looked up, saw him worried. It made her feel guilty.
'I'll try to do better,' she said, not wanting to push her luck. 'I just...' What could she say to make things seem natural? 'I've been having trouble sleeping, when I finally dose off... Well it's effecting me obviously. I'm sorry,' she said finally, pleased she could say something that was sort of the truth. She wasn't sure what else to say, so she went back to staring at her tea. It was easier than confronting her own lies by looking into his eyes.
