Summary: WWN broadcast featuring Lee Jordan again.
Lee was rather glad that he’d managed to get a reaction out of Umbridge with his first true show. The decree coming out with such haste pleased him beyond end, as it meant that already he would gain popularity and that he was doing something right.
However, the more recent Decree 4 was NOT something that pleased him at ALL. Lee was a Gryffindor at heart, and he valued fair play rather highly. Having one sister in Hufflepuff had only reinforced that growing up.
He set up all of his equipment and put on his headphones, checking everything again before switching from music to audio.
“Witches and wizards, welcome once again to the River Runs Through It show, hosted by yours truly, River, on the trusty WWN, your choice for music, opinion, politics and more.” His radio voice was as deep and smooth as ever, similar to but not the same as his normal speaking voice.
“It seems, my listeners, that already I have managed to put a bee in the bonnet of our dearly un-beloved Minister. It seems that I am, and may I quote, ‘subversive to the Ministry and in danger of instigating political instability.’” His voice was light and mocking.
“I’m all for a good and stable Ministry – I think most of us are – but for me to create political instability, we first have to have legitimate politics and stability to go with them. That, my friends, is something we Do. Not. Have. We need a true leader, not one who is only out to use events and twist them for mere personal ambition.
“The Uber-Bitch, as I will continue to call our un-revered Minister, is the subversive one. You, our wrongful Minister, are not helping, but are creating even more problems in a time where we need clear, strong leadership. Is there someone willing to stand up and lead? Is there someone we can depend on for guidance?”
He leaned back and propped his feet up on the desk, getting into his show. “It appears that people such as myself who ask these questions are only going to be penalized for doing what needs to be done. ‘Investigated for ties to Death Eaters and the Lestranges.’ I will say now and always, I in no way support the people that do such harm to so many people.”
He sighed and his voice took on a slow, sad quality. “And in reference to harming people, I’ll pause my spiel in order to give a brief news report. According to unnamed sources, there was another attack perpetuated by the Lestranges and their followers on Callender, a town not far from Hogsmeade. All Muggles in the town were killed in a variety of gruesome ways, and all of the witches and wizards there,” he notably did not say muggleborns and halfbloods, “were mutilated in horrifying fashions. My heart goes out to all of those who were hurt.” And it did hurt, even if he hadn’t lost anyone. He was a halfblood – it could have been him.
“On to barely more bearable things, have all of you seen ‘ahem’ Ministry Decree #4. If not, here it is for your listening displeasure.” He read off the decree in an insulting tone.
“I ask you, dear listeners, what makes a ‘dark creature’ truly dark? Is not evil a matter of choice? Oh Uber-Bitch, you are once again showing your prejudices – you never did like anything that isn’t up to your one-hundred percent human requirements. What is next, registering half-bloods and muggleborns because they have ‘dirty blood’ too? It seems like you are doing the Lestranges’ work for them, you incompentent toad.
“What qualifies as a risk to public safety, and who gets to decide that? You? A panel that is under your thumb? This is not right, in my opinion, dear listeners. Do not let her ‘good intentions’ fool you. She doesn’t have any intentions but her own sick and twisted ones in mind.
“Clip clop, clip clop, Ministress. We all know what you’re really afraid of.” Most people had heard of her … encounter with the centaurs that one year. “Wrongful persecution and imprisonment cannot be stood for by any nation.”
He sighed. “And I suppose I have given you a long enough earful for this time. I strongly urge you to offer help to the survivors of the ghastly attack – my very spirit goes out to each and everyone one of you, and I mourn for everyone that was lost. Now I shall switch you back to the regularly scheduled musical programming.
“This is A River Runs Through It, your number 1 WWN show for witty and cutting political dissection. Until next time, this is River bidding you good day.”
He switched over to music and wilted back, exhausted in an emotional way from the passionate words he’d spoken. He sipped at a glass of water and closed his eyes, wondering just how things were going to get worse.
