Daphne had to use every weapon in her arsenal not to be obvious about the way that her breath hitched at his words.
Not that she wanted him to love her. Merlin, what the hell did she want anyways? What was she doing?
Perhaps it would have been better after all if none of this had ever happened. Life would certainly have been simpler, but would that have made her happier? And since when in the hell did she care about 'happiness' instead of important things like money and status.
"I just don't want anything to change," she said finally. Things were fine the way they were before any silly words had come between them.
