Verity avoided rolling her eyes out of sheer respect for her best friend. "Well I'm glad you were distracted then," she admitted. "Dehydration isn't the end of the world," she reminded him. Of course, it had gotten bad enough that she was on bedrest and had nearly lost the child, but that still wasn't his fault. "And it's my own fault for not taking better care of myself. Not yours."
She whinced as Nathaniel went for her hair. Her hands moved to his to pry the golden locks from his grip. It was strong, a good sign, she figured. "Well, I'm flattered then," she joked.
Verity couldn't help but smile and even laugh quietly when he started talking about Nigel and Polly. When Theo caught on she was grinning excitedly. She nodded, still biting her lip, still unable to believe everything.
