Daphne sighed, shaking her head. "It's not that. He'll care. He's quite protective of me, but he's very, very stubborn. He does what he wants and he's not likely to take being threatened very well." She didn't think he'd try to retaliate or some such nonsense, but her father would not likely take this sitting down.
She resisted the urge to groan her frustration. This predicament was terrible.
At Miles' offer to take the blame, Daphne shook her head. "You will do no such thing. And I won't have you talking like that at all. I could see how that woman acted - no doubt they both give you tasks that are near impossible." She was growling now and she felt an overwhelming desire to defend him, even against his own put downs.
