RP: The Truth, at last
Date: 22nd April 2006 Characters: Kevin Entwhistle, mentions of Percy Weasley, Lisa Lestrange Location: Auror HQ Private/Public: Private Rating: PG Warnings: Minor swearing, Percy (yes, I consider him a warning) Summary: His charms perfected, Kevin goes to make a connection after four months of work and sickness.
Kevin walked to Auror headquarters, looking almost like a made man. His hair was pulled back and styled nicely, his robes were clean and pressed, and his shoes were clean and polished. One would almost assume he was meeting with the Muggle Queen. But alas, he was meeting with Percy Weasley, and he knew a professional look would generate more favourable results.
He only had one chance to do this, and he wasn't about to mess it up.
He walked in, checked in his wand, and asked to see Percy. He was shown in to a cranky and grumbling Auror chief, who at first wanted to dismiss him out of hand. When he mentioned possibly exposing a vital hole in security, Percy agreed to listen to what Kevin had to say.
It was not easy convincing Percy of what he wanted to do. Simply put, he wanted to test the magical signatures the Aurors had collected in cases of Death Eaters they knew of with the charm he developed in order to match the hairs he'd found in his former home. Telling was the easy part, but Percy at first steadfastly refused to have any part of it.
Kevin was wishing he'd brought Terry when his logical mind kicked into gear and started explaining how the Aurors would benefit - that he would train them how to use the spell if they suspected an Animagus (there was no harm if it was used on an actual animal), that he was talk to Terry this very day and augment the shield around the town so it would detect and reveal DE Animagi (as well as alert Aurors to the presence of said persons), and that the charm would be further adapted to include the signatures of anyone else they knew or suspected was an Animagus.
It took quite a long time and a lot of convincing, but Kevin finally wore Percy down to the point where he relented. He was taken to the evidence room with an Auror who watched his every move. He was fine with that since he did not want to be accused of tampering with evidence.
He blatantly avoided Lisa's file at first, wanting to test it against other Death Eater signatures. When he'd been at it for a while, he finally gave in to his own selfish needs. He pulled up her signature, then carefully used the spell on one of the hairs. The hair separated and a wisp of colour flowed from it. Even the Auror was amazed as he held them side by side, then one in front of the other. It was a perfect match.
"Gotcha, you bitch."
The Auror led him back to Percy's office, where Kevin displayed the results of his work, showing that he had a match and that no evidence was tampered with. Percy took notes furiously, and reminded Kevin of his obligation before dismissing him.
Kevin walked out of the Auror office, taking a few steps before giving a loud 'whoop!' He'd worked long and hard, and it turned out his suspicion was right. Now, he just needed to do a few more things.
Invigorated, he ran through town and to Hogwarts to see Terry. This couldn't wait.
