Kevin watched her face as he took it all in, amused at how it went from happy to 'oh really' to a frown then back to happy. He'd missed seeing that from her.
At her question, he nodded. "Yes. Yes they do," he said, "And in case you are wondering... no, I have any resentment about how you left. I'll admit I was confused... upset... even a little angry for a bit."
He looked up and smiled. "But I can't stay that way. I know how you are, and I do understand. And I can sit here and wish so many things... but it will do neither of us any good."
He reached over and took her hand. "There is one thing I do need to know," he said, summoning his courage, "The time we had together... and be honest... did I make you happy? I mean really, truthfully, happy?" Out of everything they'd been through, it was the one issue that had dwelt on his mind.
