Daphne's eyes flew open at the sound of the first explosion. It had to have been close, and it took her a few moments to register the sound, but it was most definitely an explosion. The last time she had heard anything of its kind had been at the Cornfoot Lightening Ceremony, and the balls of flame had been more than enough to give her nightmares for a few days afterward.
This was intensely more frightening. The explosions were rocking the foundation of the house, and she could see the fleeing darkness billowing with light through the window on the far end of the room.
It was then that Daphne realized that Miles was swearing, and that she had instinctively grabbed onto his arm in horror. "How should I know?!" she squealed, her voice laced with terror. Why was he trying to LEAVE HER SIDE!?
