Millicent stared at her, shaking her head, not wanting to believe it. 'No, the baby is fine,' she said, though inside her she knew the empty feeling, knew what the Erklings meant. It hadn't been a hallucination, they'd taken her baby.
She drew a sharp breath, refusing to believe it. 'The baby is perfectly all right, Romy,' she said, her voice raised as much as she managed. She felt like shouting, throwing things, only she couldn't. As emotions racked her body there was nothing she could do but to hiss loudly as her muscles were too week from being still for so long, as her body refused to do as it was told. All she could do was shout, and listen to the loud whisper that escaped her lips.
'There is nothing wrong with my baby!'
So if that was true, why did her heard feel cold and empty, why did her entire body feel empty, as if something vital had been ripped from her very soul?
