Colin knew Cormac and Seamus were standing in the doorway, when Emma looked up, but he couldn't bring himself to look at them, and instead stroked Emma's hair when she rested her head on his knee.
"No baby, this isn't your fault." He shook his head, he never wanted Emma to think that any of this was because of her, and it made him ill to think that so many people would dislike her because she wasn't magic.
"They don't like anyone, not really." He sighed, stroking her hair slowly. "They hurt my family, my parents, and my brother, and Em I-" He stopped for a second, his voice growing thick with emotion, and he wiped at his eyes. "I don't want them to hurt our family, I want to make sure that no one tries to hurt Seamus, or Cormac, of you. I can't let them hurt us anymore." He pulled her up from the bed and into his lap, wrapping his arms around her.
