Valery's face fell again, but she set her jaw so that she didn't look too upset and nodded. "Okay Misser," she conceded. "I guess I knew that anyway," she told him. He did look sincerely upset that he couldn't be her Daddy for her.
"Bane?" she asked, smiling and almost giggling as the puppy tried to lick her.
There was something about the way he kept calling her that- 'little bit'- that made her like him, or maybe think that he liked her. She smiled at him when he called her pretty and nice.
"No, I don't have a mummy. She got upset and went away," she said. "I have a Miss Hestia, but she's not here. That's why I'm looking for Daddy. Miss Hestia is trying real hard to take care of me and baby brother but she cries lots at night, I hear her. And she always looks sad.
"Miss Hestia said Daddy went to visit the angels with Mama Rose and I really think he needs to come home 'cause just between you and me, Misser, Miss Hestia's not doing very good. But she's trying Misser, she tries really hard!"
Valery looked down at the doggy again and petted its furry little head good like Miss Hestia showed her to pet the kittens. Then she looked up at him. "Do you know where the Angels are, Misser? I thought they might be in there," she said, looking at the sweets shop.
