Aurelie kept her reaction to this bit of information hidden, and she merely smiled at him. "Ah, I see. Women can be strange when it comes to their children, although I'm sure you take good care of your son. It sounds like my daughter has been a good influence on him as well." She finished off her tea, placing the empty cup and saucer down.
The woman wet her lips, pressing them together. "Yes, indeed," she said, ending that discussion in its tracks. She had already tried flirtation as a tactic of conversation, and she'd been rebuffed once already. Best not to try that again, despite his words.
The man seemed reluctant to speak, and she found it grated on her nerves. It was always best when one came to a decision and stuck with it instead of floundering with words like this one was. "Yes, I'm sure she was. She's always busy. Although I had three children to look after, all about the same age, and I managed just fine."
Aurelie nodded at his approval of her praise, and she thought that a tour would be a wonderful idea. "Please, do show me around. I'm sure the rest of it is a lovely as it appears from the outside, and I would so much like to see it." At least, it would give her something to do while she tried to puzzle this one together. He was a strange fellow, in her opinion.
