Liam seemed to take to his food with relish, but he was genuinely tired, which meant he was far from being back to his old self, but it was a hell of a lot better than where he was.
"Perhaps we can make that get well card this afternoon," he suggested when Liam started to ask about it. "You and I can have a long sleep, and by then Nigel will be awake."
"I promise you, everything will be all right." He said the words to Liam, reassuring him as he helped tuck him back under the bedcovers, but he looked at Daphne. They would get through this, even if they would be left to brood with their secrets and lies for the rest of their lives.
"It will be all right," he repeated, more to convince himself, but he hoped Daphne would understand.
