Miles was just running a hand through his hair when he saw Daphne look at him strangely, and smirk. It took a moment for him to realise what she was talking about, and he thought back on what he said. He snorted, waving her away. "You know what I mean," he drawled.
He thought nothing again of what he'd said as he carried Liam to the bathroom. Despite his good cheer, the boy really wasn't anywhere near back to perfect health, as Miles saw how quickly his energy was sapped. Liam seemed to flag about halfway through his dragon story, but Miles loved every word.
Miles need to get him to see Goldstein, as he was worried the pox might have done more damage to his eyes. They seemed to still be puffy and they hurt, and Miles cast a spell to clean the gunk from them.
"Back to bed for you. The pirates will just have to wait another day for you to rescue everyone," he said as he was helping dress his son in fresh pyjamas. He could smell the coffee as Daphne came back, and he gave her a smile.
"Thank you," he said warmly, suddenly feeling awkward about what he'd accidentally said. He was just overtired, and needed to sleep. Perhaps after Liam went back to sleep he would as well, and a stifled yawn proved he was right.
