Miles didn't know when he'd ever needed (or wanted) to lose himself in a woman. He'd heard of guys who had fallen 'head over heels' in love with a witch, and would do her complete bidding.
Until recently, Miles had only ever wanted a woman for their obvious charms, and for how they could help him satisfy his more basic urges and desires. But standing here with Daphne in an embrace, he got a glimmer of what it was to have something more than just a quick shag.
This whole mess was of his own doing, and now they were connected by the secrets they were going to have to keep. It made him think more on the need to get her out and away from all of this. She didn't need him complicating her life any more, and he vowed he'd do all he could to end this marriage that they'd accidentally stepped into.
But having her leaning against him, and feeling soft lips on his neck did help. He cupped her chin, bringing her lips to his. "I know... I just wish..." He didn't say any more, as he heard Liam let out a yawn as he woke up.
He looked down to his son, who instantly tried to rub his eyes. Miles had needed to put a charm on him so he wouldn't, as it was only making his pox marks worse. "Hey kiddo," he said as he only pulled slightly away from Daphne.
He brushed the hair out of Liam's eyes, and asked him how he was feeling. Checking his temperature, he saw that it had dropped. The fever had broken. He gave a sigh of relief, and smiled over at Daphne. That was something good, and he chuckled with relief, his eyes telling her that perhaps things would be okay for them.
Not that he would ever forget what he'd done, and how it had affected someone important in his son's life.
