"That was not my point," Severus said archly, ignoring the last part of what Harry had said. "What did it matter that you broke down in front of her? She tried to help I am sure, she seems to be that kind of woman. You do not have to be the stoic with everyone. No one will will think you are weak or useless. They will simply think you are human. Is that so bad?"
He snorted derisively. "If you truly believed that than you are a fool and most likely listened to Albus too much. It was never going to be over once the Dark Lord was dead. Why do you think I made arrangements to continue my spying role even after he was dead? I knew that there were enough strong personalities among the Death Eaters that someone would pick up the reins. Rodolphus simply made better preparations than his rivals and he had his brother and Bellatrix to back him up."
He gave Harry a long look. "You and many others. Do you think there is anyone involved in this war who does not want it to be over so that they never have to fight again? I would gladly spend the rest of my years brewing potions and doing research... and spending time with Draco and my son. I am sure Bill Weasley would very much like to see Greyback dead so that he can be sure that he and his family will finally be safe. I am sure Minerva would very much like to halve her workload by disbanding a no longer needed Order."
He sighed and clasped his hands behind his back. "It will happen. Of that, I am sure. Wars are never short and often seem bleak. But the Lestranges do not have the advantages the Dark Lord did. They are merely human. They can be defeated."
