She set the medical kit on the table, and gently took one of his hands in hers, carefully unwinding the bandages, turning it over in her hands to inspect the damage. Before she knew what she was doing, she bent her head and placed a gentle kiss to his palm, apologizing without words for her behavior the past few days. She straightened and reached for the healing salve, rubbing it gently on the wounds, and watching as they slowly healed over.
"I got my period this morning," she said, as she turned her attention to his other hand. "So...I'm not pregnant." She couldn't meet his gaze, didn't want to see the relief and disappointment mixing in his eyes. She thought she'd be relieved about the fact that there wasn't going to be a baby, and she was. She was just surprised at the fact that she was disappointed as well.
