Daphne nodded. "Okay. I'm sure dragon will get a much better nap if you sleep too. We want dragon to get better just like you did, right?"
She waited until Ella had closed her eyes and her breathing had regulated before Daphne slipped away. She knew how children loved to pretend like they were sleeping, but she had clearly been too tired to resist too much.
It was clear now that the illness had taken a heavier toll on the town than she had thought. Daphne had tried her best not to care, since most of Hogsmeade was full of Mudbloods and Muggle lovers anyway, but being here had hit home more than she had realized.
Now, she just wanted this plague to be over so that whatever damage was done could be dealt with. Waiting like this was just torture, and she was getting close to her breaking point. They all were.
