MR. TERRIFIC | The back door to the surburban home of one Terry Sloane has been left wide open. Drops of blue fluid track from it on the tiled floor of the kitchen. As this trail leads deeper into the home, more of the blue fluid appears to have been wiped by hand on countertops and the walls along the way. It all leads to the door to the basement, which has also been left open, and down the stairs to the mirrored room often frequented by the home's owner.
Mr. Terrific is there now. He hovers nude in the center of the room. His body is patched with what could best be described as dark green bruises, resulting from whatever internal traumas he has suffered. The blue T is emblazoned on his face, and his eyes glow bright yellow as his powers are in full gear. A deep gash on his forehead is in the process of stitching itself closed under the power of his telekinesis.
ARTEMIS | News had trickled into the Satellite about the incident at S.T.A.R. Labs while Piper was on monitoring duty. The first pieces of information that came in were bad but at least the good news was that the situation was handled. The surprise for Piper came when the rest of the news came around that who had helped handle the situation and who might have partially been the cause of it. She called in Charlie early for his monitoring shift, she realizes it will only get back to Rex at some point but she could deal with that later. She waited impatiently for Charlie to show up and bolted for the teleporter when he finally showed up.
When Piper arrives at Mr. Terrific's home she's in fully suited up which means she goes for the backdoor, she apparently doesn't need to break into since it is left wide open for her. She might have time to appreciate that if it wasn't for the smears of blue just inside the doorway. That couldn't be a good sign. Piper runs for the door, quickly following the trail of blue towards the basement door which she sends herself down so fast that she's lucky she doesn't make a misstep on the stairs. She grabs a hold of the bannister once she reaches the bottom to stop and steady herself, she's breathing heavy partially because she was running but mostly from the fright of the scene upstairs. She looks over Terrific, taking stock of how badly he's injured. "...you left your door open."
MR. TERRIFIC | So focused on on repairing himself through telekinesis, Mr. Terrific hears Piper coming before he actually senses her mind. It is the least painful surprise of late. "I didn't realize..." His voice is strained from a mixture of pain and mental exertion. His body remains hovering in place, but Tornado rises from the pet bed in the corner and approaches to greet Piper.
ARTEMIS | "No," Piper looks him over again, he was clearly having a difficult time fixing himself. "I guess you were distracted with trying not to bleed all over the floor." She can safely say it's blood now since he's still got some caked on him. Piper doesn't notice Tornado till he's at her legs, she puts her hand down to gently scratch him behind the ear. "You probably scared him when you came down the stairs." Terrific upset Tornado by getting all bloody and broken. It's something he should feel bad about.
MR. TERRIFIC | "Yes... his instincts drive him to be protective and concerned over me. I have tried to reassure him all will be well." There is movement underneath the bruising on Mr. Terrific's side as his ribs -- or whatever he has that passes for ribs -- pop themselves back into place. "But he knows I am not sure of that."
ARTEMIS | "He has the right to be protective over you, you're all he has." Piper flinches a little as she hears the snap of bones, she's not feeling very reassured at the moment, either. "You should come with me to the Satellite. We can see if we can get The Question to come in and see if she can help or we can figure out something else." They have a proper facility, maybe even the healing tubes could do something.
MR. TERRIFIC | "Your medical bay would do little for me. No... I'm best equipped to deal with the damage done to me." It is an uncomfortable thought for Mr. Terrific -- the idea that there is no one qualified to help someone of his... specifications. It's a lonely thing. "This is a bad time for to you be here. The D.E.O. are nearby. They're aware of my damaged state and debating if this is the best opportunity to... deal with me."
ARTEMIS | "You don't know that for sure." if he can be bloodied and broken like everyone else then maybe it won't be hard to figure out how to help him. "...then this is the best time for me to be here! We should leave!" He can't honestly think she would just leave him here after he tells her this.
MR. TERRIFIC | No, Mr. Terrific did not believe that information would drive Piper to leave. But nonetheless, he felt she should know. "I don't believe I should. They may be correct in moving against me. I... haven't grown as much as I thought."
ARTEMIS | Piper lifts her hand from Tornado's head stares pointedly at Terrific. He's going to let himself be taken by the DEO because he feels like being highly critical of his personal growth. "So you should let them take you, and probably kill you, because you're not feeling you reached some level of growth you set for yourself in less than two years." Maybe he can start to feel bad about something like that when he actually reaches his twenties. "Where are they?"
MR. TERRIFIC | "I'm too dangerous to take twenty years to become... better. I thought I understood so much. I learned so much about human behavior. But when it comes to my own behavior -- reacting to my own emotions -- I know nothing of what I'm doing." Mr. Terrific isn't only referring to his actions with Kryptron but his earlier reactions to what Piper did on the other Earth. "A D.E.O. surveillance team is across the street. The rest are gathered at Frank and Melissa's, discussing what to do. They know you're here. It has made matters more complicated. The Chinese are pressuring the D.E.O. about you. They worry losing control of the situation if they report your presence. It would mean the Suicide Squad would come. They expect that to lead to collateral damage. You were with Chris again."
ARTEMIS | "Then don't take twenty years. Maybe you can learn not to break dangerous androids out of prison now so no one has to worry about it later." Because when this is all over, and they're hopefully not both shot by the D.E.O. he can at least take that away from it. "After all the time you've spent reading people's minds, you can't really think that you're the only one that feels that way." Emotions has gotten the better of everyone at least once. Terrific isn't special in that sense. Piper immediately starts to consider her options when Terrific gives the details of the D.E.O., if Agent Everett is with them then it might be possible for her to have a talk with them. "...do you really need to bring that up now." She means Chris, it's not really the pressing matter at the moment.
MR. TERRIFIC | "Considering I may decide to allow the D.E.O. to take me --" Because Mr. Terrific is not as vulnerable as the agents are thinking he may be. "-- this could be the only opportunity." He knows Piper would rather consider the ways in which they can deal with the D.E.O. should the agency make its move, but that is not one of his considerations. If he chooses to stop them, he will simply stop them.
ARTEMIS | "They're not taking you anywhere." Piper has already made up her mind on that. The reason the Chinese government wants her is because the D.E.O. gave her the information to go after Nine, they wanted her to go after him. Hopefully that would give her some sway, at least with Everett. "What do you want me to say? It's not like I can deny it to you. It happened." And then she let him go home to die without saying a word about it to him.
MR. TERRIFIC | "It's good that you were able to spend more time with him." Mr. Terrific knows what that meant for Piper. "But you shouldn't expect favor from the D.E.O. Your situation with them has become so complicated by the Chinese that there is little they can do." He's telling her this for future reference and not for this immediate situation. He doesn't intend for her to try to stop the D.E.O. tonight.
ARTEMIS | Piper doesn't answer to the Chris situation, mostly because it was awkward to be discussing this with Terrific. It also bothered her a little that he was fine with it, not that she should feel that way. "Then I'll just have to think of something else." She's just not sure what. It might be time for her to consider piling the furniture in front of the doors.
MR. TERRIFIC | Piper's thoughts are, of course, an open book to Mr. Terrific. "I'm unsure what to do with jealousy. It is so new to me. I would like to explore it further and... understand. But that won't be possible." Chris Knolls has returned to his own time and died. This leaves Mr. Terrific's jealousy feeling hollow, and it leaves him without the opportunity to better figure it out. "Please don't rearrange my furniture. It is how I like it."
ARTEMIS | "That's not it." Or it's not just it. For Terrific to be fine with it meant to Piper that maybe he had already moved on from her, it just wasn't a good feeling to have and she didn't care to have it right now. "I don't want to talk about this." She doesn't particularly feel good about hoping Terrific would have more of a reaction than he does. "Then how exactly do you want me to handle the situation? If you say for me to leave you know it's not going to happen."
MR. TERRIFIC | "And you know I can't be stopped. Even if what I decide is to surrender." Mr. Terrific can prevent Piper from helping. He can even make her leave telepathically. He would do what is necessary to make sure neither her or Tornado are hurt if he surrenders. "There were deaths. At S.T.A.R. Labs. There were deaths because I protected Kryptron. I couldn't sense his mind, but it was there. I know why people fear me. I know why they should. I know why you killed Red Tornado. But I don't know what I should do."
ARTEMIS | "It wasn't you that killed them." Not that it gets Terrific completely off the hook but this isn't something he wanted to happen, it was a result of poor judgment. "You're not the first person to misjudge someone, it doesn't mean you should just hand yourself over. I know it's scary for you to make a mistake but hasn't all been mistakes!" He's become a hero for the city, it counts for something. "What happens for the next android like you shows up and sees even one that tried just gets locked away with the rest of them?" She thought Terrific was set on changing people's minds about these things.
MR. TERRIFIC | "I fear doing more harm than good." Mr. Terrific drops slowly to the floor. His hand carefully touches his side as his body settles into holding up its own weight. "I'm sorry. I should have reacted better when you returned before. I disagree with what you did, but... I am far from perfect myself."
ARTEMIS | "That's your own fault for thinking you could be perfect." Piper eyes Terrific looking for any sign that he might not be able to handle his own weight. He shouldn't have come down. "It you want to make it up to me then don't surrender."
MR. TERRIFIC | "In my defense, I was built to be and named Mr. Terrific," he says in a deadpan manner. After a moment of standing still to judge his own physical state, he turns and takes a step away from one of the mirrored walls. "I will not have to. They know now I am not as vulnerable as some believed and are leaving."
ARTEMIS | "...that didn't take long." Piper's a little surprised that they had caught on so quickly. "If they're leaving then that means you can still be healing." He looks considerably better than before, at least less broken. He was still plenty bruised.
MR. TERRIFIC | "Everything is now back to where it should be. I think the rest will see to itself... in time." Mr. Terrific honestly doesn't know if he's capable of healing. The Brain Trust did not leave him with an owner's manual for his body. But since the intent of his design was to be as human as possible, he assumes there is at least some sort of self-repair ability. "I apparently bleed. It wasn't a pleasant lesson in my own anatomy."
ARTEMIS | "Yeah, I might have discovered that on my way in." With all the blue liquid spilled on the floor and wiped on the counters and walls. It wasn't a pleasant lesson for her either. "...if you don't mind I'd like to stay and sleep on the couch. Just in case something happens." He's still hurt so really it's best to be safe about something like this.
MR. TERRIFIC | Mr. Terrific believes he will be fine for the time being. Although, he's concerned about this Suicide Squad in the thoughts of the D.E.O. agents. He's honestly not sure he could fend them off again should they attack him. "You can sleep in my bed."
ARTEMIS | Piper looks over at Terrific uncertain about how to read into that. Though he can tell that before she says anything. "Then where will you sleep?"
MR. TERRIFIC | Mr. Terrific can, but he tries to allow people to speak their minds anyway. Especially Piper. Because she likes to. "...It will still be my bed."
ARTEMIS | She really shouldn't consider this, she hasn't seen him in almost six months and he's injured. But him being injured should be enough of a deterrent for her. She could handle cuddling. Though not without getting Terrific to do something first. "I think I'm going to need you to put some pants on before we go to bed."
