log: caitlin and jena kent
summary. caitlin goes home and talks to her mom.

jena. Jena Kent walks through the front door of her apartment home with some bags of groceries in her hand. She stopped by at the market on her way from her store, picking up a few things. Passing by the living room desk on her way to the kitchen, she sets down her handbag and walks into the kitchen, where she sets the other bags on the counter. She should start making a salad, because she at least knows that will be part of dinner tonight. The family is a little scattered today, but she thinks at least Chris will be coming home from the Fortress tonight. So tonight it's salad and whatever else she feels like when she has a better idea of who'll be eating.

caitlin. Caitlin was actually also back from the Fortress! She'd snuck into the Watchtower and blithered around there for a little bit, but in the end she knew she had to come home and talk to her mother. She actually felt more than a little guilty about the way the conversation had gone with her parents, and she in particularly needed to apologise to her mother. So she actually... Slidewaysed home, she didn't want the entire world seeing a green person going into her childhood home, and let herself in through the back door. "Mom?"

jena. Jena puts all the non-salad related groceries away, leaving the rest out on the counter. "In the kitchen." If a person has the range of hearing, those Slideways gates make a distinctive sound. This could get awkward if Arielle makes it home. She's weirded out by the whole situation. And of course, Chris won't be home for it.

caitlin. Hopefully Kid Krypton would be called out on something. That would keep her busy for awhile. Caitlin made her way to the kitchen, hovering in the doorway for a second before automatically going to help put stuff away. What? She could be a good daughter when she wasn't screaming at her parents about being lied to. "I, uh." Maybe if she busied herself putting stuff away, she could figure out what to say properly.

jena. "I'm making salad for dinner tonight, honey. Leave that out." Jena turns on the faucet and starts washing her hands. The sight of Caitlin's new appearance isn't so strange to her. Definitely not to the degree she was expecting, but then again, she was expecting a total reversion to her Martian form. This middleground isn't nearly so dramatic. "I'm not sure if your dad or Arielle will be home for dinner. Anything special you want with the salad?"

caitlin. "Oh, ok. Sorry." Clearly there was one person in the room actually normally, and it definitely wasn't Caitlin. She ended up scooting out of the way, though still hovering around in case there was something she could help with. "Um, no, it's okay, I stopped off at the tower and Mar'i already fed me. Just salad is okay." She bit her lip, shifting on her feet. "Mom, about the other day..." Caitlin broke off, still not sure what to say. 'Sorry if I made you feel like I didn't consider you my mother after you told me you were adopted?' It didn't quite have the ring she was looking for.

jena. Oh, Rao. What would Mar'i have fed Caitlin? Jena loves Mar'i, but the girl is on a constant sugar high and part of that has to come from her diet. They should invite her over and make her eat salad too. "Yes?" It's rather obvious what Caitlin wants to say. And since she seems to want to say it, Jena won't cut her off on it.

caitlin. Jena was right to worry! Because she tried to feed Caitlin chocolate. She did, at least, have the sense to turn it down. Caitlin took a deep breath, and just plunged right in. "I didn't mean to... that is... what I'm trying to say is..." Argh. She was a reporter, she wrote for a living, surely she could do better than half-sentences. "You and Dad... you're my parents. You took me in and you raised me, and it doesn't matter if my biological parents even show up. You're still my mom."

jena. Jena slips her arm over Caitlin's shoulders with a small smile and kisses the side of her daughter's forehead. "I already knew I was, honey." But it's good Caitlin remembers that. Because if Caitlin still plans on having that birthday party, she'll need parents to pay for it. "You know -- I was just a few years older than you when we took you in. And pregnant with Arielle at the time. Your dad and grandmother were at the top of their tension with each other. It wasn't an easy year." Jena was still young, and suddenly she had a daughter with another quickly on the way. She doesn't mention that the Justice Legion also died around this time and how close she was to some of them.

caitlin. "I still needed to say it." Because both of them needed to hear that she still felt that way. Caitlin cuddled her head in against Jena, slipping her arms around her waist. She didn't actually usually do the whole affectionate thing with people, but now was a really good time for it. She's just going to cling for a little while, okay? "Are you trying to make me feel bad for getting mad at you?" She's just teasing there, with a little grin on her face as she says it. "I know... it couldn't have been easy for you guys. And I know this sounds weird or something, but... thank you."

jena. "Well have a weird you're welcome in return then." Jena pets Caitlin's hair a little. Is it a little more yellow than usual? Hm. Once the clinging passes, she moves to resume preparing the salad. "Do you have any plans yet for what you'll do now?" Caitlin obviously has some decisions to make about her superhero life. Her civilian life doesn't seem like it'll be affected by this.

caitlin. "... I don't know. I know I want to stay on the League and keep doing what I'm doing, but." Caitlin leans against the kitchen bench, watching her mother. "But being Supergirl would be weird. Given that I'm not Kryptonian and pretty much the entire world knows about that now. But then going with something Martian would be weird because... I don't know anything about my heritage there. Except for the stories about the Manhunter. And I was raised Kryptonian, and Grandma freaking gave me the Supergirl name, so..." She broke off, smiling a little. "I'm babbling, aren't I? I think I need to talk to her and Grandpa before I really decide anything." There's a pause. "Though I definitely need to change my costume. Than much blue and green just looks weird."

jena. Jena lets out a small laugh. "Maybe you should do some more research into Martian Manhunter before deciding that blue and red are the wrong colors for you. And good luck with your grandmother." She wouldn't want to be there when Caitlin tries to explaining how she might not want to use the name her grandmother gave to her -- which was a bigger deal than it might seem.

caitlin. "... blue and green together just looks weird. I don't care." Maybe her father had been secretly colorblind. "Red's fine. Though a bit Christmas-y." Clearly she'd have to put a lot of thought into this. She grinned at her mother's comment, leaning in a little. "Got any tips? She's your mother." Share your wisdom!

jena. Unfortunately, there's no wisdom to share on this one. "You're out of luck there, honey. You should know that by now." There's no family secret to dealing with Jena's mom. Especially not for Caitlin after getting her help in becoming a superhero. Good luck getting out of all that.

caitlin. Caitlin just sighed, leaning over to steal a piece of tomato from all of the stuff Jena had cut up so far. "Maybe I'll talk to Grandpa first." It would probably be better to talk to Kara after she'd mostly made up her mind about what she wanted to do.
