Because of those words Alec went ahead and gave Izzy that famous dad glare. Of course, it didn't last long because the corner of his mouth twitched after a second, resulting in him giving her a half smile. "I don't know what you are talking about," he said in an almost teasing tone. Part of him kind of wished his parents had been around more, but the other part of him knew they were actually better off with him in charge. He wasn't as demanding or belittling as their parents.

By the Angel, truer words had never been spoken. His life was a mess and he had allowed himself to fall apart for a bit. There was a feeling of shame he still felt because of that, that and guilt. He had should have been stronger, been more in control. He gave his sister a look that was a mixture of gratefulness and annoyance. There wasn't a spoken answer that needed to be given because they both knew the truth.
"Alright, fine. I am curious, though..." He rubbed the palm of his hand on his pant leg as he raised an eyebrow. "When did you get to be so wise?"
Alec was half serious and half teasing. He knew his sister was smart, but somehow managed to be shocked each time she said something so profound. After a moment he moved so he could bump his shoulder into hers. "I don't say it a lot, little sister, but I am very glad you are here with me."
