Between. The impenetrable nothingness of between swallowed F'lar in a shroud of darkness, soundlessness and icy chill, leaving him numb and clinging desperately to Mnementh both bodily and mind as they plumeted. And they were falling. There was no graceful eight second pause before Mnementh brought them safely through to the other side. No time for a breath or the fierce pound of a brave heart. No room for thought.
I'm here, the reassuring voice of Mnementh was all that kept F'lar from dropping off the verge of sanity as they came between. Abruptly it was over, Mnementh flared his wings with powerful strokes, righting himself from the freefall into a graceful leveling flight, emerging from the vaccum that had sucked them into this space from out there, and spit them away in contempt. F'lar tightened his knees and held onto Mnementh, a burst of unexpected and rarely displayed laughter came from his lips, delighted.they'd made it.
Fiercely beating wings kept them aloft, and F'lar looked out over the unfamiliar surroundings with a puzzled expression and startled surprise. "Where have you brought us Mnementh?" the bronze rider asked.
From this height he could see the entirety of the city below, but there was nothing familiar about it. Had Mnementh jumped between time instead of between space?
No, the dragon replied. I could not imagine this place with such clarity. It smells funny and the air is thick.
"It looks strange from here," F'lar agreed. "Take us down then, and have care with the towers."
Mnementh roared his assent, his deep voice trumpeting through the air as the dragon turned and began his graceful spirals down, watching with interest, mild pleasure and subtle dismay as the people and the creatures within scattered, racing to safety on instinct.
