Finn was still trying to wrap his mind around the fact that somehow he’d been taken back in time - to before the planet was uninhabitable because of the wars. Or at least they’d thought it was uninhabitable before the ARK had sent his group down. He closed his eyes as he thought about all the people who weren’t here, all of his friends who weren’t here. Their friends. At least Clarke, Raven and Bellamy were here so he wasn’t completely alone. He turned his head when he heard footsteps coming towards him, his body tensing until he saw Raven’s face and then he smiled at her for a second before he realized she seemed to be limping and he frowned. “What happened to you?” His concern was obvious in his voice as he moved to meet her. *** Raven Reyes was limping, yes, but she was moving more quickly that she should have been able to considering the state of her leg. She was probably lucky to be alive, definitely lucky to have use of her leg at all at this point. It was fortunate that there were some pretty good doctors here among the displaced, those of them who had been mysteriously arriving from wherever. None of that was at the front of her mind now, though, because Finn was here. Finn. She'd watched him die, she's watched Clarke kill him. She didn't know how it was possible for him to be standing here in front of her, but- It was a miracle. She half ran, half limped, ignoring his question as she threw herself into his arms, hugging him fiercely. Raven was almost afraid to let go. She was almost afraid that he would vanish like a mirage in the desert. “Finn,” she mumbled against his shirt and it was almost a sob as tears flowed freely down her cheeks. She didn't know how he could be real, but she didn't know how any of this could be real. All she knew was that it was and he was here. At the moment, that seemed to be all that mattered. *** Finn wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to him for a minute as he closed his eyes. Raven was his best friend, the person who’d always been there for him.. His family and having her here took some of the weirdness out of finding himself here. He still didn’t know where here was other than Florida but his friends were here so it couldn’t be all that bad. He just couldn’t help wishing Jasper would show up. It took him a minute to realize Raven was crying but once he did, he loosened his arms around her so that he could lean back. “Raven? What’s wrong?” *** Raven just clung to Finn for a little while, afraid he would disappear at any moment and desperately hoping this wasn’t all happening in her imagination. It shouldn’t have been possible for him to be here, but it shouldn’t have been possible for any of them to be stuck so far in the past, in a world before the wars and the nukes and everything. “Nothing, nothing,” she lied, hastily drying her tears and shaking her head at him. “I just can’t believe you’re really here.” She knew she should give him a real explanation, but how was she supposed to do that? How was she supposed to tell them she was crying because he was supposed to be dead and she didn’t think she’d ever see him again? *** “Raven - don’t lie to me. Please? I know something’s bothering you,” Finn told her, moving one hand up to wipe her cheek softly. That was the drawback to knowing someone his entire life - he knew when she wasn’t being completely honest with him. “And you still haven’t told me what happened to your leg. And don’t tell me nothing, I saw how you were moving.” *** “I’m fine, it’s nothing that won’t heal,” she repeated her excuses and swallowing back the last of her tears. She knew she would have to tell him the truth eventually, but she didn’t even know what he remembered. She’d already figured out that people seemed to show up from different times, even if she still didn’t know how or why it was happening. There was a lot she would have to tell him, but she needed to know where to start. “What was happening for you at home?” she asked him, instead, trying to figure out just what he knew or remembered already. She knew they should also probably move. She didn’t know what apartment he’d be assigned to, but that was probably where they should go first, to get him settled. At least, unlike her, his first stop wouldn’t have to be to a medic. *** Finn frowned at her repeating those excuses and brushed his hand over her cheek one more time before leaning in to kiss her forehead. He’d learned years before when to push her and when not to. And right now was looking like one of those times he shouldn’t push. He’d ask her more about it later. Or see if Bellamy or Clarke wouldn’t fill him in on what had happened. One way or another he’d find out. “The Grounders were attacking the camp. Clarke had to close the drop ship with Bellamy and I outside. Why?” He asked, stepping away slightly so he could see her face easier. “Why don’t you answer that once we get inside? Showing up in the past can take a lot out of you.” Plus he wanted to talk to Bellamy and their apartments were right next to each other and if he couldn’t get the information he wanted about Raven’s injury from her, he could ask Bellamy faster. “I know what apartment I’m in but no clue how to get to that building.” *** “Holy shit, you’re that far behind me?” Raven hadn’t really meant to blurt it out like that, but she was surprised to hear that Finn was so far behind. There was a lot she’d have to fill him in on and that seemed like an even more daunting task now. For the moment, she could give him the simplest explanations, though. “We all seem to be from different times, Finn. The things we remember from home - they’re not all the same thing. That Grounder attack was months ago for me.” She paused, nodding when he suggested they get inside. “What room did they give you?” She couldn’t help hoping he’d be close. At the moment, she didn’t really want to let him out of her sight. Getting to the apartments didn’t take that long, although Raven couldn’t really walk very fast. Soon enough, they were settled in his apartment, with Raven sitting on the sofa. “I got hurt in the attack,” she told him when she caught him giving her that worried look again. She didn’t go into details and tell him right now that there was more to her limping than the nerve damage that required her to wear a brace. Raven figured the more detailed explanations could wait. *** “501. Next door to Bellamy,” Finn told her as they started to walk. He spent a moment when they got to his door trying to find the right key to let them in, hoping that someone had told his roommates that someone new would be moving in with them. He waited until she was settled on the sofa before asking the question that had been weighing on his mind all night. “What do you mean the attack was months ago?” |
