He realized that there had been a time when he'd warned Helena that the building was dangerous, and perhaps it still was. The only difference was that Esme no longer wanted to go after her - she'd set her sights on him and him alone, and that was something he could handle.
"She has no intention of hurting you any longer. I managed to convince her that you and Peter have nothing to with her vendetta against me, and thus you are no longer in danger. Still, the guns are... protection. A precaution, if you will. You may never have to use them, but if the time comes that you do, at least you will be prepared. I want to protect you, Helena, but even I must realize that I may not always be there to do that."
Seconds ticked by before he realized what he'd said. "Not like that. I simply meant... the distance in apartments, for example. I am not always with you, but Peter usually is. He can protect you, and if not, then at least I will rest easier knowing that you can protect yourself."
He smiled at the last part. "I suppose then, we will always worry about one another, no matter what is said."
