Vlad listened while she spoke, but at the same time he tried to separate what he should and shouldn't tell her. Daniel's alcoholism was something he didn't think the man would want anyone else to know, so he decided not to mention that. Some details were personal, while others he hesitated at sharing due to the danger they might put her in.
"I had only spoken to him on the forums before I became... involved in his affairs. Surely you have heard the rumor that he was attacked, and it is one of the few which are based on truth. He was attacked, and Boyd found my name on one of his receipts, which is why she contacted me. Going to a doctor was out of the question, so she and I tended to his wounds." He sighed. "It did not end there, however. You may have seen mentions of a woman named Vaughn, who lives in 1002 - or did, at least. Boyd told me she attempted to murder her and then go after R1, but thankfully she was averted by the presence of workers. It was then that she told me she needed a place to say, and I... I offered to let her stay with me."
He paused to take a sip of coffee before continuing. "R1 became... sick, however, despite my best efforts. The hospital he was taken to was private, and it was run by people I wish to never associate with again." He tried to meet her gaze to make her understand that he couldn't tell her any more about it. "He became a friend, Helena, so from then on I did whatever I could to take care of him. The woman in the stairwell last night... I believe it was Vaughn."
