You're nine years old, kicking dirt off your boots. You're in a pen with five other boys your age, everyone's parents standing just on the other side, cheering and taking pictures. Your competitors are ribbing on you of course, because "you're a girl!" but hey, that's not gonna stop you. "Don't listen to them Madison, you got this!" You hold the lasso tightly in your hands and give a thumbs up to your uncle while your aunt tries to shush him. And...the gunshot!
You're off!
Running as fast as you can, you make it to the pigs a split second before the others and lasso one just before it can run away. There's a few minutes of wrestling in the dirt and mud, but you get that piggy hogtied the fastest and it feels so awesome to be announced winner, dirt streaked and all. Grinning, you wave to your aunt and uncle in the group while she snaps a shot of you holding up your trophy. The three of you will later go out for victory sundaes. Junior Rodeo, you think, is the best thing ever.
