He saw her glance back toward the door and wondered if she was really anxious about being alone with him. He was surprised to feel a pang of discontent at the thought that she might not trust him. He focused on opening the wine and poured her a glass, letting the unfamiliar rush of feeling pass before he answered.
"I'm glad, Ella..." he said sincerely. "And I really am sorry for the part I played in things going awry that night..." He handed her the wine and then poured his own glass. "What else have you been up to? Any adventures investigating the building?" his eyes were playful over the rim of his glass as he took a small sip.
