The ride to the hospital Shane mentioned felt like it lasted an eternity.
Piper got out, paid the cabbie, and he looked up at the building. Inside was danger and Daniel, and Piper knew which of those would win out in the end without even putting too much thought into it.
Piper went inside, and he told the attendant that he was looking for Eric Collier, that he was Eric's cousin, that his name was Paul. He handed over the toiletries when asked for them, and he wasn't surprised when they kept the razor and the aerosol of shaving cream. When they asked for his ID, he explained that he didn't have it with him, that he'd left home in a hurry to get here, that he didn't know how to drive. He knew they didn't believe him.

He followed the harmless looking nurse down the white halls, and he could see Vlad at the end of the walkway, talking on his cellphone in a hushed whisper. He considered getting his attention, talking to him first, finding out what he could about Daniel before going in to see him, but the nurse cleared her throat and held a room door open for him.
