Who: Vaughn Davis & the bright, shiny girl next door(Gabrielle). What: An unexpected meeting. Where: Outside of 1001 and 1002 to begin with. When: Extremely late, 3:30 AM. A couple nights after Gabrielle has moved in. Warnings: Possible cursing. Notes: Vaughn has been staying down in Kane's apartment, but has come to collect a few necessities.
The days that followed the nuclear fall-out with Boyd were a slow burning mania. Vaughn hadn't left Kane's apartment, she scarcely slept or even ate. Surviving off a herbal tea and cigarette smoke, the witch was spending so many of her waking hours in front of a mirror. She managed to pull herself away whenever Kane would come by, feign normalcy.
But then it was back to the drawing board. There was something new inside of her now, and it wanted to come out. This cocoon of unfortunate circumstance with Boyd would let it. Nourish it into maturity. And then she knew she'd be one step closer to the end. A fingertip's brush from unstoppable.
She'd made a mistake with Boyd in not killing her, but that was in the past. It hardly mattered now, as the girl had likely informed whomever would listen about how she was in such god awful danger, and about how it just ain't right, and golly gee pumpkin muffins, Vaughn was soo mean to her.
These thoughts were scored heavy with Boyd's antebellum tongue.
But it didn't bother her now. The damage with Boyd was complete, she couldn't focus on it. She had to come back to ground zero, where she worked best. Boyd might have changed the rules, but the game was still the same. Vaughn still held all of the right pieces.
And in the light cast off from that kerosene lamp, her image played shadows on the wall. A dark figurine, stretched tall and slim. Gaunt with it's tenebrosity, the true outline of a foul witch. The shadow rippled like water before melting into a new shape entirely, and in the quiet of 103.. Vaughn laughed with victory.
A short while later, she was taking the stairs slowly up to the tenth floor. It was dark, but dawn would come in a few hours and Vaughn knew that if she was going to go back to her apartment.. the time was now. There were items she couldn't leave behind. She'd collected an empty military issue backpack from Kane's to use.
Very cautiously, she opened the door into the tenth floor hallway. It seemed empty as a grave as she edged toward 1002.
