Boyd glanced over at Vlad, and her cheeks flushed red with a combination of embarrassment and anger and hurt. She motioned Vlad forward to help Daniel get wherever he was trying to get to, but she stood her ground on the general premise of things, despite being upset.
"No, I didn't listen, and I ain't 'bout to start now. Wanna know why? 'Cause this choice, it ain't yours, it's someone else's. Someone's taken it outta your hands. And I get that kicking us outta here, it's the only thing you got control over, and even that's gone now. So I know where you're coming from handsome, but it don't mean I'm gonna do as you say. Once you're free of whatever this is, if you want to send me packing, then I'll listen."
She reached a hand out to touch his shoulder, an instinctive thing. "You're scared, Daniel, but you don't wanna be alone," she said softly. "There's a difference."
