She nodded when he asked about the stairs, and she didn't unwind her arms from his neck when she edged back just a touch to look at his face. Her eyes were red from crying, her hair a mess from Vaughn's hands, jaw already starting to show bruises from Vaughn's fingers. "She shoved a knife at me and told me I had to cut myself like Daniel was cut, so I'd see how bad it hurt," she explained, her eyes trustingly focused on Vlad's face.
"I ain't got any idea where she is. She chased me up here with that knife, but she got scared when she saw the workers putting up the new door. She lives down at the end of the tenth floor, though, all by herself. I thought she liked me," she finished, voice soft, sad, confused. "How could she be pretending all that while?"
