Who: Cole and Jane. What: A meeting in the hallway. Where: A hallway in Bellum. When: The day after this. Warnings: None? Idk.
Cole was suddenly aware of just how empty the eighth floor was now. He and Emil were the only ones living on it, and now that the latter was gone, he was all alone. It was just him, a bunch of empty apartments, and an empty apartment belonging to a dead man.
No, that wasn't right. It wasn't as if the guy's ghost still lived there or anything.
But what if it did?
He drove himself crazy with those kinds of thoughts - as a kid he'd wandered around Boston, searching for supposedly 'haunted' houses and hating himself for never having the courage to go in - so he decided getting out of his apartment would be the best thing to do. Maybe he'd go for a walk, or just wander around some malls and lose himself in the Christmas crowd. Oblivion was sounding good right about now.
He took the stairs, since he didn't like how slow the elevators were - not to mention the noises they made. The last thing he wanted was to get stuck in one, so he avoided them at all costs. The stairs were kind of creepy when no one else was taking them, but at least he could hear any oncoming noise in the silence.
On the fourth floor he heard a beep coming from his coat pocket, and stopped against one of the walls to see what it was. His cell phone was blinking merrily at him, but when he flipped it open, the screen was black.
"Damn it." Like he could really afford to fix the stupid thing. Cole tried opening and closing it, taking the battery out, and turning it off and on - but the screen stayed blank. Well, at least he had a destination in mind now, right?
