Vlad nodded, vaguely aware of the fact that Luca could hear their conversation. He wouldn't believe him, but if the man so much as dared accuse him of anything, there was a distinct chance that he might get himself severely hurt. Vlad was in no mood for the man's idiotic behavior.
"I did not see it happen. Theresa fell in the well while he was bashing my head against the ground, and he was first to go down and try to help her." He continued to avoid using Emil's name, at least for the time being. "She was unconscious when he went down, but he could not get her out himself. I went in to help, but in the end I lifted her out while he pushed. She was alive-- she had a pulse, and she was breathing. There was some kind of scream - it sounded so far away - and when I looked down, there was nothing. He... he drowned."
Vlad shook his head. "Do you understand? She was unconscious, and my word is worth nothing in this building. No one will believe anything I say, and that is exactly what he wanted."
