Vlad was half-tempted to leave him down there to rot, and had taken a few steps towards the doorway before turning back. "Damn you, Emil," he hissed under his breath. Returning to the edge of the well, he looked down.
"You can ignore me if you wish," he snapped, "But you know as well as I do that you cannot get her up on your own." He didn't wait for a response. He would be able to get out, he was sure, even if Emil decided to leave him there once they got the woman out.
He swung himself over the side, bracing his feet against the wall as he tried to ease into the well. Careful to avoid Emil and the woman, he let go of the edge and dropped into the water. It was ice-cold and the shock momentarily took his breath away.
